When the award is for a coach, a sponsor or a lifetime contribution, a figure on a column reads as a child’s trophy. Acrylic and crystal are the register people expect for that, and they engrave beautifully.

The two are not a good-and-better pair. Acrylic is light, effectively unbreakable, takes a bright polished edge and is far cheaper to ship; crystal is heavy, has real optical depth and will shatter. If your awards are being posted to twenty sponsors, acrylic is the sensible choice and nobody at the dinner will think less of it.

For crystal we can do sub-surface laser engraving — the mark is burned inside the block rather than on it, so it floats in the middle and cannot be felt. It photographs extremely well and it is the thing that makes a crystal award look expensive.

What is sub-surface engraving?

A laser focused inside the block creates the mark within the crystal rather than on its surface, so it appears to float and you cannot feel it with a fingertip. It only works in optical crystal, not acrylic, and it is the single most impressive thing in this range.
